Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer shop tours?

No not at this time. If you would love to see my maker space and how I utilize my shop head over to the video section and check out the shop update video for an inside look.

When is the next BCB (Blue Collar Blades) Drop?

As a one man shop & a true small business I make an effort to have a few drops during the year. These drops vary from several social media posts prior to no warring at all… What remains consistent is my conscious effort to notify my email newsletter subscribers first! If you have not subscribed please consider doing so. BCB will not share your information, won’t spam you, you will get first dibs a majority of the drops. Don’t forget its free to subscribe and you can unsubscribe at any time.

How does shipping work?

The website is currently setup for shipping within the USA only. Now if you are located outside the USA and would like to place an order please contact me directly via the “Contact (Us)” page. I have had some success shipping to other countries and welcome the challenge as long as the purchaser is aware they are responsible for their countries customs laws, taxes and so forth. As a small business I don’t have the resources to take on this responsibility.

Knives Shipping Policy - All handcrafted blades shipped within the USA are sent via USPS or UPS, fully insured and will often require a signature. This is all in an effort to help you all get your order quickly and safely. All blades ship for free unless noted in the product listing.

EDC Gear Shipping Policy - For EDC gear (outside of blades) totaling less than $100 will be shipped USPS or UPS, fully insured with no signature required. For EDC gear shipments exceeding $100 a signature will be required. All EDC gear ships for free unless noted in the product listing.

Made to Order “Soft Goods” Shipping Policy - More details to come here as we are looking to revamp how soft goods are made and shipped. If you have a specific question in the meantime feel free to reach out via the contact us page.

Do you offer knife making classes?

Currently I do not offer knife making classes. This is due to several factors, from labilities, to striving to create a number of product drops, complete customer orders, and curate the occasional YouTube video.

Where should I take my knife to be sharpened?

We always welcome our handcrafted works back for a spa day. Send us an email and we can discuss shipping costs and lead times. If your looking for a local service center and can’t find what your looking for hit us up and we will do our best to find a sharpening service center in your area.

How do I care for my blade?

Next put it in the dishwasher! Like really never put it in the dish washer! I have seen some of my best works destroyed by the heat, moisture and suds housed in this magical destruction box. For our most up to date knife care tips head over to our knife care page.

How long is your custom knife order wait list?

Our wait list is currently 3 to 6 months depending on a number of factors. We can iron out the details during the planning phase of your custom cutlery. Each piece is designed around your preferences — steel type, handle material, and finish — and handmade start to finish in our small workshop.

Do you ever do collaborations?

You bet! We have a number of collaborations under our belt and a few irons in the fire for more collaborations!

What makes a handmade kitchen knife better than a factory knife?

A handmade kitchen knife is crafted one at a time, with care given to every detail — from the steel selection to the handle fit and finish. Unlike factory knives, each Blue Collar Blades knife is mad by hand in our workshop and sharpened by a maker who stands behind the work. The result is a tool that feels alive in your hand, stays sharp longer, and is built to last a lifetime of meals and memories.

Are your knives made in the USA?

Yes — every Blue Collar Blades knife is proudly made in the USA with globally sourced materials. Each piece is crafted in small batches, right here in our workshop. We believe in American-made quality, fair craftsmanship, and tools built by hand — for people who cook, create, and care about what they use every day.

Are your pry tools TSA-safe?

Most of our pry bars are TSA-safe, meaning they don’t have sharp edges or blades. However, security rules can vary, so it’s always up to the discretion of the TSA agent on duty. Many customers carry theirs daily without issue — they’re ideal for travel, work, or everyday problem-solving.

What’s the purpose of an EDC pry bar?

A pry bar is one of the most useful tools you can carry. It’s built for light prying, scraping, opening boxes, or saving your good knife from hard use. It’s a small, simple piece of gear that earns its keep in your pocket or on your keychain — a true companion for anyone who values function and craftsmanship.

Why the name Blue Collar Blades?

Blue Collar Blades was built on hard work, craftsmanship, and pride in making something real with your hands. The name is a tribute to the American worker — the people who show up every day, do the job right, and care about quality. Every knife and tool we make carries that same spirit.

What does “handmade” mean at Blue Collar Blades?

It means we actually make the knives and tools ourselves — one at a time. No factory line, no shortcuts. Each blade starts as raw material and is shaped, finished, and sharpened by hand. You’ll see small variations from one piece to the next — not flaws, but fingerprints of real craftsmanship.

What’s your mission at Blue Collar Blades?

Our mission is simple: to build tools that bring people together — in the kitchen, in the garage, or out in the field. We believe in slowing down, doing things right, and creating pieces that outlast trends. Every knife and tool we send out the door carries a story — yours and ours combined.

Does Blue Collar Blades give back?

Yes. Every knife sold plants one tree and provides ten meals to families in need. We proudly partner with One Tree Planted and Feeding America to make it happen — no matter how big or small our year is.

This isn’t a marketing angle; it’s a promise. Every knife, every tree, and every meal matters. Giving back is built into what we do because craftsmanship isn’t just about making knives — it’s about making a difference.
