The Mule & Sidekick — Copper Galaxy is a matched two-piece kitchen knife set built from the ground up as a pair. Same steel. Same maker. Same custom pour BWP ShokRes scales — a swirling blend of copper, light teal, and warm brown that photographs like a galaxy and feels like nothing else in a kitchen drawer. These two knives were always meant to be together.
The scales are Beyond Wood Products Copper Galaxy ShokRes — a one-off custom pour that has never existed before and will never exist again. BWP closed its doors permanently, taking their trademarked ShokRes formula with them. What remains is what makers like me managed to source before the lights went out. This specific colorway is singular. When this set sells it is gone from the world entirely.
The Mule — 8" Chef's Knife
The flagship. The knife that earned its name because it simply works — tough, reliable, balanced, and completely at home in a demanding kitchen. Eight inches of AEB-L stainless steel with the length to break down proteins, the belly for rocking cuts, and enough presence on the board to handle whatever a serious cook throws at it. BCB's house steel for good reason — fine-grained, highly refined, takes a clean aggressive edge and holds it through real work.
The thin black G10 liners and ¼" mosaic pins frame the Copper Galaxy scales perfectly — just enough contrast to let the material breathe without competing with it.
The Sidekick — Paring Knife
Every great chef's knife deserves a worthy partner. The Sidekick is the most capable paring knife to leave this shop — a nimble 4-1/8" blade with a thin spine built for the precision work the Mule doesn't do. Peeling, trimming, detail cuts, breaking down smaller produce — the Sidekick earns its place in the knife block every single time it comes out. Same AEB-L steel. Same BWP Copper Galaxy scales. Same hands that built its partner.
Together they are a complete kitchen in two knives.
Every dimension, every grind angle, every edge bevel on both blades was done by hand in my 80 sq ft shop in Provo, Utah. No production line. No shortcuts. One set at a time.
